CAST IRON ELECTRODES

Welding cast iron is very difficult due to the high carbon content which gives cast iron it's great strength under compression but very little in elongation which promotes cracking. In MMA welding the prefered electrode ENi-Ci has a pure nickel core wire and special high graphite coating which will give you the best chance of welding cast iron without further cracking and is also machinable.

For SG iron and malleable iron you can use a ENi-Fe electrode which has 55% nickel and 45% iron offering more strength but may cause cracking on grey cast iron becuase the deposit is tougher than pure nickel.
